Look a little closer
A language is more than a list of words. It can preserve knowledge about seasons, plants, winds, family relationships, songs, ceremonies, and the history of a place.
Languages often become endangered through unequal power: exclusion from schools, migration, discrimination, and pressure to use a more economically dominant language. A family's practical choice can unintentionally interrupt transmission to the next generation.
Preservation does not mean freezing language in a museum. It means giving communities the right and resources to keep teaching, adapting, and speaking in their own voice.
